The Challenge

Some time back, Pacific National Rail came to us looking for a rugged kiosk for their staff to use for signing on and off, checking their shifts, leave applications and other HR related activities. They have locations across Australia including some very remote sites for access to mining and agricultural areas where they transport freight by rail back to major centres and ports.

Initially we supplied them with a locally made metalwork enclosure and a rugged touch screen and they fitted their own PC and peripherals. As time went by and their business evolved, they required a partner to build the complete kiosk and further to that, to maintain and support the kiosk fleet of over 100 kiosks across Australia.

The Solution

Our K200 kiosk was the design chosen and although it is a 10 year old design it has stood the test of time. For Pacific National Rail it houses a 17” toughened glass touch screen, an Advantech industrial computer, a UPS for back up during power outages and an RFID card reader for the employees to log on and off shifts. TSM build and configure the complete kiosk and send to sites ranging from capital cities to mining towns like Kalgoorlie, Broken Hill and Coppabella.

Each month the TSM technical team do a remote health check to ensure that the kiosk fleet is stable and secure, checking things such as Windows security updates, UPS battery health, application software version and much more. We are also the first port of call for any incidents with the kiosk fleet and have been a top performer with Pacific National’s Service Desk for the past 5 plus years.
